From Cottesloe to Yanchep and Two Rocks
Sparkling Ocean, Coastal Plains and Verdant Hinterland
- diverse in nature
Sunsets
The Sunset Coast is famous for its stunning gold, pink, and
yellow sunsets and its endless stretch of pristine coastline but as
a holiday destination it offers so much more - a dynamic blend
of relaxation and excitement, of unique natural environments, of
endless beaches, National Parks and fertile hinterland.
Venture inland and discover world class golf courses, botanic
gardens, aquatic and sporting complexes, boutique wineries,
Neerabup and Yanchep National Parks and a variety of unique
attractions and historic sites.
Explore the Coast
Hire a bicycle or car (splurge on a convertible
from one of the local car hire companies), cruise along the coast
in the glorious sunshine and picnic on one of the beaches or
grassed areas along the foreshore. The beaches stretch over 50
kilometres and provide perfect conditions for a leisurely amble
along secluded dunes or for the more energetic, activities are
plentiful. Equipment is in good supply from hire companies so
you can hit the beach, not just to swim or sunbathe but surf,
sail, scuba dive and fish.
Coastal Drive
The coastal journey starts at the southern end from the popular
Cottesloe Beach. The magnificent stretch of pristine white sand
welcomes a changing parade of locals and visitors all chasing the
sun and the fun. Trendy open-air cafés and pubs line the
beachfront - stay a while and sample some fresh local cuisine or
quench your thirst. “Cott” beach, as it’s known by the locals - is
the place to be seen!
Beaches
Get lost in the views as you head north through the prestigious
suburb of City Beach to the legendary beach of Scarborough,
recognized as one of Australia’s finest surfing and swimming
beaches - a mecca for surfers, people watchers, backpackers,
locals and holiday makers alike. At Trigg Beach, spend a few idle
hours exploring the Marmion Marine Park or stop off for lunch
at one of the many beachside cafés and restaurants, before
continuing north.
Marinas
Sorrento Quay and Hillarys Boat Harbour sit in a sheltered bay
on the edge of the Indian Ocean, in an architecturally designed
complex that provides a village lifestyle and shopping complex
over water. Visit the aquarium or catch a ferry to Rottnest
Island. Do the Perth “coast thing” and grab an ice cream cone
from one of the many foreshore shops.
Lifestyle & Shopping
To the east of the harbour is a well planned City of Joondalup
which is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia and offers
an exciting and vibrant lifestyle. Here you will find a number of
attractions, shopping complexes and cinemas.
To the North
Further to the north are the coastal suburbs of Burns Beach,
Quinns Rocks and Mindarie Keys, a marina complex. The area is
renowned as a popular beach fishing and holiday spot. The resort
towns of Yanchep and Two Rocks boast a marina and boat
harbour which was built in the heyday of the America’s Cup
yachting challenge. The coastline is scattered with historic
shipwrecks and Yanchep Lagoon is one of the most popular
picnic and swimming spots north of Perth.
Accommodation
When it comes to deciding on where to stay, either close to the
action or in secluded tranquil surroundings, all needs and
budgets are catered for. Whether it be a five or four star
international resort or hotel, self contained family cottage or
apartment, holiday chalet, bed and breakfast, caravan park or
backpackers hostel, you will find it on the Sunset Coast.
There are very few places in Australia where the sun sets over
the ocean and the west coast provides this unique opportunity
in some of the most idyllic of settings. As the day draws to a
close, it will become perfectly clear why this area of Perth is
known as the Sunset Coast.
